Adventing 2009
With Christmas approaching ever so swiftly, I’ve decided to spend some time reflecting on this period of advent. I intend to put the blogging discipline to good use, and write a few thoughts or questions on a Bible passage every couple of days. I have a list of devotional readings for advent which I will be using.
I found my Christmas experience in Australia last year strange to say the least, and also one of the most ‘un-christian’. It’s easy to take for granted what we build up as our own unique family traditions for Christmas. Its also easy to mistake our traditions as all that Christmas amounts to, and last year lacked something vital for me. I do not want to devalue that significance for many of you who see the holiday season in this way. However, I feel I need to look again atĀ what is important about Christmas as a Christian festival and why.
In engaging my thinking in this way, I hope to rediscover something of the joy, hope and wonder that Christmas actually can be. Please bear with my ramblings and disjointed thoughts!
