Notes on Sydney
In most towns and cities you visit, there will be certain things you need to be aware of. Usually it will be traffic, generally cars, or if you are in Amsterdam, bicycles and trams are things you may not have had to watch out for before. In sydney i have encountered a completely new phenomenon of hazard that I need to keep my eyes peeled for…. rogue joggers.
They are everywhere! I went at a time and place when they were out in force, lunchtime in the botanic gardens, and as i ambled along at the pace my own little walking legs would allow, I was overtaken, bumped and heavily breathed upon continuously by a never ending stream of white trainers and shirts which bore phrases such as ´burn fat not oil´. I kept looking around to see if i had strayed onto some kind of running track!
Naturally the weather has cleared up after my slightly miserable day in the blue mountains! (it wasnt really miserable at all, but i am still irritated by sods law, murphy´s law, or the plain bad luck with the weather that day)
Yesterday I was taken around Mosman bay by sarah, the french au pair who i met in the hostel, and a lovely walk along her favourite route, through hilly estates and leafy suburbs, along the beach and up into more wooded areas. This was obviously not sufficient for our curious minds, however, and we kept wandering far beyond her route, and eventually ended up strolling into town 6 hours later!! was great wandering through the suburbs and CBD though, and chatting away as we went.
Today was simply wandering back through kings cross, hyde park and town hall, the now well trodden spots of my time in sydney. i will certainly be back again before the 6 months is up, but exactly when that will be and for how long i am really not sure! i am all packed up now and ready for my flight to Auckland early tomorrow morning, where my New Zealand experience will start! for an itinerary of my route through the north and south island have a look at the ´journey´ page, which i have just updated.
take care
